What Is Affiliate Marketing?

The basics — plain English, no jargon

Affiliate marketing is a performance-based arrangement where a website earns a small commission when a reader clicks a link and makes a purchase. The commission is paid by the retailer or brand — not by you. You pay exactly the same price whether you arrive at a product page through our link or by typing the URL directly.

Think of it like a referral fee. If you ask a friend which chair they’d recommend and they point you to one, and that recommendation turns out to be accurate and helpful, you might thank them. Affiliate marketing is the commercial version of that — except we’re held to strict transparency rules that a friend isn’t.

Key point: Affiliate commissions never add to your purchase price. Amazon, FlexiSpot, Autonomous and other retailers absorb the commission cost entirely. You pay the same price as if you’d found the product yourself.

Affiliate links are identified on ErgoDeskHub by the rel="nofollow sponsored" attribute in our HTML and by the visual “Check Price on Amazon” button format used throughout our reviews. Every article on this site that contains affiliate links also includes a short disclosure statement at the top of the page.

💸

How We Earn Commissions

The exact mechanics — full transparency

When you click an affiliate link on ErgoDeskHub, a tracking cookie is placed in your browser. If you make a qualifying purchase within the cookie window, we receive a commission from the retailer. Here is exactly how that works for each program we participate in:

Amazon 24-hour window: Amazon’s cookie lasts 24 hours. If you click our link and purchase anything on Amazon within that window — not just the product we linked — we earn a commission on the entire order. This is standard Amazon Associates policy and applies to all Amazon affiliate sites.

Our commission rates vary by product category and retailer. Furniture and home office products on Amazon earn a 3% commission rate. Some direct brand programs offer higher rates of 5–10%. These differences in commission rate do not influence which products we recommend — a product earning us 3% will be ranked above a product earning 10% if it is the genuinely better product for our readers.

We track clicks and commission data using Pretty Links (our internal link management system) and each retailer’s affiliate dashboard. This data is used only to understand which content is most useful to readers — never to favor higher-earning products in our recommendations.

🤝

Our Affiliate Programs

Every commercial relationship — disclosed in full

The following table lists every affiliate program ErgoDeskHub currently participates in. This list is updated whenever we add or remove a program.

Program Type Commission Cookie Categories covered
Amazon Associates Network 3% (furniture) 24 hrs Chairs, desks, accessories, peripherals
FlexiSpot Direct 8–10% 30 days Standing desks, ergonomic chairs
Autonomous.ai Direct 5–8% 30 days Standing desks, ergonomic chairs
Branch Furniture Direct 6% 30 days Ergonomic chairs, desks
We will update this table whenever we join a new program or end an existing relationship. The date at the top of this page reflects the most recent review. If you notice a discrepancy or have a question about a specific link, contact us at [email protected].

Our Editorial Principles

The rules we hold ourselves to — unconditionally

Affiliate relationships only work long-term if readers trust that the recommendations are genuine. These are the non-negotiable principles that govern every piece of content we publish:

1
Commission rate never determines ranking A product earning us 10% commission will rank below a product earning 3% if it is the inferior product. Rankings are determined solely by our evaluation criteria: adjustability, build quality, ergonomic effectiveness, and value.
2
We recommend non-affiliate products when they are best If the best product in a category is not available through any of our affiliate programs, we still recommend it and either link to the retailer’s site directly (non-affiliate) or note that it is not currently available through our links.
3
Negative reviews are published without softening If a product we’ve reviewed performs poorly, we say so clearly — including products sold by our affiliate partners. We do not soften negative assessments to protect commercial relationships.
4
We never accept payment for positive coverage Brands cannot pay us to feature their products, improve their ratings, or be included in a roundup. Every product in every article is selected based on editorial merit alone.
5
Disclosure appears before every affiliate link Every article containing affiliate links includes a clear disclosure statement at the top of the page, before any links appear. We do not bury disclosures in footers or rely on site-wide disclosure pages alone.
🚫

What We Never Do

Hard lines we don’t cross — regardless of commercial pressure

The following practices are common in affiliate publishing and represent conflicts of interest that compromise reader trust. ErgoDeskHub does not engage in any of them:

✓ We always do
  • Disclose affiliate links clearly on every article
  • Rank products on merit regardless of commission
  • Update reviews when products change or decline
  • Include non-affiliate links when best product warrants it
  • Publish honest negative reviews of affiliate products
  • Credit readers with the ability to make informed decisions
✕ We never do
  • Accept payment to feature or promote a product
  • Rank products higher because of higher commissions
  • Receive free products in exchange for positive reviews
  • Sell text link insertions or sponsored content
  • Write fake or fabricated reviews
  • Hide affiliate disclosures in footnotes or footers only

FTC Compliance

Our obligations under US law

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) requires that any material connection between an endorser and a brand be clearly disclosed to readers. A commission-based affiliate relationship is a material connection. This page, combined with per-article disclosures at the top of every article containing affiliate links, constitutes our compliance with these requirements.

FTC Disclosure — Official Statement

ErgoDeskHub is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. We also participate in affiliate programs with FlexiSpot, Autonomous.ai, Branch Furniture, and other brands listed on this page.

ErgoDeskHub is compensated for referring traffic and business to these companies. This compensation may impact how and where products appear on this site. However, this does not impact our reviews and comparisons. We try our best to keep things fair and balanced in order to help you make the best choice for your needs.

For more information about the FTC’s guidelines on endorsements and testimonials, visit: ftc.gov/endorsement-guides

In addition to FTC compliance, all Amazon affiliate links on ErgoDeskHub comply with the Amazon Associates Program Operating Agreement, including requirements around price disclosure (we use the AAWP plugin to display live prices via API rather than manually), link formatting, and prohibited content.
